In 10 years it's impossible to predict where Portsmouth FC will be, children born today will be told Portsmouth were in the Premier League in 2009 and even won the FA Cup in 2008 and played in Europe, and i'm sure the reaction will be the same as when i was told Bradford City were in the Premier League just over 10 years ago, and that in 2001 Leeds were in the Champions League, sheer disbelief. From 2013 it is official, Portsmouth Football Club are a small club, with a small squad, small budget and small expectations, in reality a mid table finish in League 2 would be a great achievement, yes i'd say a least 80% of the blue army are expecting at least play-offs if not a league winners medal around the necks of our players, but if we finished the 2013/2014 season above 15th we could rest assured that our football league status is safe ( i mean this time last year some of us said let's restart in the Blue Square Bet South). SOS Pompey had a plan of action, a plan b if you will that if the club was to suddenly fold (like Mr Gaydamak threatened to do in October 2011 on the eve of a match with Hull City) then the following season Pompey would be able to start in a respectable league like other folded clubs such as Chester City (now Chester FC) and Darlington have done.

Chester FC are what Pompey would have been aspiring to replicate,  The Cheshire side who were liquidated shortly after relegation to the Conference in 2009  re-started in the Northern Premier League Division 1 North (9th tier of English Football) and gained promotion in there first attempt, over the next two years they gained back to back promotions from the Northern Premier League (2011/2012) and the Blue Square Bet North (2012/2013), now Chester are just one promotion away from the Football League and playing Pompey. But Pompey were not liquidated, it could have happened on more than one occasion, but it didn't, the blues managed to keep afloat and now under ownership of the fans, we are on the up! With people who care about our team running the side, and fans having their say for the first time in a lifetime, we could maybe, just maybe bring success to Fratton Park! Those Premier League years were great, but it's over now, Now we have proper football, football for the fans, the lower leagues are more in touch, players are approachable, friendly and happy to talk, the fans in the ground are actual fans not tourists (you'd know exactly what i mean if you've ever been to Old Trafford or Anfield),  and the football is better, it may not have the pace or skill of the top flight but it's honest, physical and just as gripping as any other league in the world. What does the future hold for Pompey? Well i believe in the next 10 years, the club will be stabilized  I (for the first time in 4 years) trust the people in charge, i believe in Guy Whittingham, we know he can be a good manager, just look at the tail end of last season, once the squad knew each other and got to gel together, he managed them to an impressive run, on March 2nd 2013 Pompey won for the first time in 4 months, and after i we finished strongly, in the next 10 games we won 4, drew 3 and lost 3. So to sum up, yes the children of tomorrow may not see Pompey how we see them, yes they probably won't understand, but we've got a team, we've got players and we've got a new season to look forward to, without worrying about all the financial trouble and transfer embargo's, back the trust, back Guy and back the lads on the pitch for the whole 90 minutes.

Play Up Pompey
